Background of the Bangladesh Association of Young Researcher

 

Bangladesh Association of Young Researcher (BAYR) is the only national youth research association in Bangladesh established on 03rd October, 2005with a view to improve the research and development activities in Bangladesh by the young scholars. This association is the dream of some young, energetic and dynamic scholars of Bangladesh.

 

At mid September four students of the University of Dhaka think about the research organization, totally headed and organized by the young peoples and keeps the interest of young researchers. In this regard they talked with some intellectuals and prominent researchers. And with their suggestion and inspiration they, the four potential scholars, established an association named “Bangladesh Association of Young Researcher” (BAYR) on 03rd October, 2005.

 

At that memorable day they formed an interim committee consisted of 7 members with the help of another 23 students of the University of Dhaka for 90 days. The main responsibilities of that committee were-

§ Maintain all the formalities and official works for the validity of the association,

§ Make an excellent written constitution for this association,

§ Take proper steps to held a fair and democratic election of Executive committee on 03rd January, 2006,

§ Take initiative to promulgate this association to all over the country,

§ Collect at least 100 members before the election,

§ Hand over the authority to the newly elected executive committee.

 

After election in January, the association starting to work in full swing by the scholastic guidance of newly elected executive committee and within six month it became the sole national research association for the young peoples of Bangladesh. Now it is performs as the platform of research for the youth having 30 branches in all over the country in various recognized institutions.

 

 

BAYR Goals and Objectives

BAYR aims to engage itself with the mainstream development aspects of the world and lead the country to the way of prosperity and progress. In this regard, the main concern of the association is-

Specific objectives of BAYR is -

§ To promote quality research in every field of study.

§ To create awareness on research and development issues among the   peoples.

§ To inspire the youth about development and research based education.

§ To provide training and essential research facilities to the young scholars.

§ To ensure the participation of the youth in the development of the society.

§ To disseminate the human rights education among the people and to assist reducing violation of fundamental rights of human being.

§ To work as a national platform that represents the youth as well as the nation in international arena.

Membership

 

BAYR offers different types of membership for the interested persons who are dynamic, brilliant and potential in their own field. 

 

1.      General Member:     

Q       Membership fees    :  100 BDT (Per year)

                Q  Qualification           : Minimum H.S.C

           Q  Age Limitation       : 18 years to 35 years.

 

2.      Research Member:

Q       Only for those who have at least

      § A publication published in national or international journal, or

      § A Thesis or Monograph paper, or

      § More than two high quality assignments maintaining.

Q       Membership fees   :  150 BDT (Per year)

                Q  Qualification          : Minimum H.S.C

           Q Age Limitation       : 18 years to 35 years

 

3.      Patron Member:

Q       Membership fees   :  1000 BDT (Per year)

           Q Age Limitation       : Minimum 30 years

                Q  Qualification          : Graduate.

 

4.      Life Member:

Q       Membership fees   :  10000 BDT

           Q Age Limitation       : Minimum 25 years

Performed activities.

 

BAYR provides a great deal of programmes and initiatives for the betterment of the society. To reach its ultimate goal, development and peace, it works day after day with the assistance of young generation properly guided by its supreme authority. From January 2006 till present BAYR has performed the following activities.

Y Awareness Programme:

Q The First awareness programme of BAYR was held on 28th January 2006 on the theme of present status of university education in Bangladesh. After the seminar a  human chain was organized at the campus of the University of Dhaka.

 

Q On March 14, 2006 BAYR arranged a discussion meeting on “Human rights and its present condition in Bangladesh” for its members. More than 120 members were presented and gather a clear notion about the topic as well as the UDHR.

 

Q On 4th May BAYR managed to hold a seminar on “ILO and the rights related to the labourers”. It also followed by a peaceful rally joining all class of peoples in Dhaka City.

 

Q BAYR observed the “Child Abuse Prevention Day-2006” as one of the country representative of the “World Women Summit Federation” In 19th November 2006. That day was decorated with numerous activities. But unfortunately due to the unstable political situation in Bangladesh, BAYR emphasizes to build up the awareness and consciousness among the people on this matter.

 

Q 21-22 April 2007, BAYR observes “Global Youth Services Day -2007 On that occasion its activities towards youth service was appreciated by the civil society. As part of this BAYR hold meeting at the University of Dhaka. Conduct awareness programme. Actually all the programmes of BAYR are dedicated to the development of the youth and the society. We believe that every day is Global Youth Services Day.

 

Y Career Programme:

BAYR arranged some career programmes; open for all irrespective youth, adult and women. It helps them to build up their skills and confidence in order to serve for the development of the society. The following programmes were taken places by BAYR:






 

Q CV Writing programme:

 This programme was taken especially for the students who were interested to get a work in this competitive job market. This training gave them the complete idea how to write a perfect CV or Resume concerning the important information within a suitable size.

Q Internet Fundamentals:

In this modern world of technology and communication everybody should take the updated facilities; and in this regard BAYR hosted this programme to introduce the global technology to them who are not aware enough about this matter. It helps them to get access in the ocean of global information and communication.

Y Research Programme:

All the inventions for the betterment of mankind are the result of research. So, BAYR took initiative to give proper training to the student of higher studies. It includes the followings:

 

Q Basic Research Programme:

 This programme was taken only for the members of BAYR who are at the primary stages in their study and have the potentiality to become a researcher in future. This training helps them to know how to do a high quality research which will have the affect in all over the world.

v The “Internet Fundamentals” andOnline Research tools” programmes were supported by the BRITISH COUNCIL, Dhaka office.

 

Y Certificate and Award Giving Ceremony:

On 22nd April, 2007 BAYR arranged  “Certificate and Award Giving Ceremony 2006” at the R.C. Majumdar Arts Auditorium at the University of Dhaka. Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka Professor Dr. S.M.A. Faiz was present as the Chief Guest of the Programme. At this occasion BAYR announced the name of five outstanding member who were awarded “The Performance Award - 2006” for their outstanding and excellent activities through out the last year. BAYR Performance Award – 2006 winners are

BAYR also gave certificates to the trainee for their participation in the training programmes, hosted by BAYR.

 

Y Luminous (The Souvenir of BAYR):

On the great occasion of the first anniversary of BAYR, it published its first publication, a glorious souvenir named LUMINOUS.

 

Y ICT Week BAYR:

BAYR declared the second week of the February-2007 as the ICT Week (Information and Communication Technology Week) with the theme of “ICT for Youth”. BAYR had an extensive programmes and awareness session throughout the whole week on that occasion.

 

Future Plan.

 

BAYR believes in development, development for youth and everybody. For this purpose it takes various initiatives and programmes, such as-

BAYR wants to make the nation conscious and aware about the entire component which is badly needed of development and peace. That’s why it offers a lot of awareness programmes. These will cover almost all the matters related to progress and prosperity. Such as-

w Drug addiction.

w Civil Society.

w Anti corruption. etc

Y Development Programme:

In this regard BAYR will observe national and international days with great sincerity and takes special programmes. With a view to implement MDG’s mission in Bangladesh BAYR is to perform lots of programmes throughout the year. Some of the activities towards the development of various  field may be -

To ensure the quality in education in Bangladesh BAYR will work dedicatedly and that would be the main agenda of this Association. It will try to remove all the problems that impedes the gradual development of higher education in Bangladesh.

 

Y Publication Programme:

BAUR is committed to publish high standard research publications. As part of this, BAYR is going to publish a peer reviewed journal named “Journal of the Bangladesh Association of Young Researcher (JBAYR)”(ISSN 1991-0746)having national and international editorial board members, who are prominent and expert in their field of study.

 

Y Career Programme:

Indeed training programmes and as such are essential for the development of the career of the young scholars of the society. BAYR is presently offering the following training programmes-

BAYR announced various awards and scholarships. Such as-

 

Y Performance Award:

BAYR declares Performance Award for ten members of this association per year, on the basis of the following criteria -

    
          1. Candidate should have dedication and outstanding contribution to this Association.


2. He/She should works for the development of the society, particularly for the development of children, youth and women as well as the oppressed peoples.


          3. Works for the development of minority and ethnic groups.

 

Y Award of Excellence:

This award will be given to those having a influential research work on the contemporary issues irrespective of science, arts, commerce, and other fields of study.

 

Y Merit Award:

This award will be given to those having a great academic background and enthusiasm to serve the nation.

 

Y Scholarships:

Some scholarships will be awarded to meritorious university students at the graduate level with a view to assist and inspire them creating a better future.
